This Technique Clinic Workshop is a deep-dive version of the weekly drop-in series at ADF this summer. We are offering it on a wide sliding scale $10-$40 -- if you're interested, we want you to come! FB event is here.
This session will be co-taught by Justin Tornow and Julia Edwards. The practical frame for the class is Cunningham Technique*, and will be centralized around concepts designed to increase understanding of dance alignment and movement execution. As we move through the Cunningham sequences, we will support the practice by breaking down and analyzing concepts, discussing the logistics of movements, and engage in supportive somatic exercises to increase awareness within the action.
This workshop is meant to provide an even deeper-dive into fundamental movement concepts, so that we can deconstruct, analyze, and uncover the functional movements and pathways that support healthy alignment and safe execution.
In other words, TIME TO NERD OUT.
*It is not required that the dancers or the co-teacher have a background in Cunningham Technique! It is a fantastic frame for this work because it is straight forward and based in efficiency and economy of movement. And since it shares a vocabulary with other western movement forms like ballet, various modern styles, and contemporary, dancers and somatic practitioners with a dance background of any kind will be able to jump right in!
